The Town of Petawawa is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty and scenic backdrops. Located at the intersection of the Petawawa and Ottawa rivers, two world-famous and historically significant routes, the Town of Petawawa is an outdoorsman's dream. From whitewater to flatwater paddling, fishing, swimming at municipal beaches, eco-touring, etc., Petawawa's waterfronts offer something for everyone. The Town also boasts a wealth of parks and trails within its limits including Centennial Park, Civic Centre Park, the Emerald Necklace Trail System, Petawawa Terrace Provincial Park, Barron Canyon Provincial Park and numerous neighbourhood parks located throughout town. ParksCivic Centre ParkThe Petawawa Civic Centre, centrally located within the Town of Petawawa, is known as the heart of the sporting community. The Civic Centre offers three slo-pitch diamonds, three soccer fields, Civitan Playland, a bike park/pump track, mini-putt, concession facility including outdoor bar/patio, batting cages and much more. For more information regarding Civic Centre Park or to book a sportfield, contact Mark Reinert. Centennial ParkCentennial Park is the jewel of the Petawawa park system. Known by locals as the Catwalk, Centennial Park offers scenic backdrops, a beach for swimming, a bandstand, gazebo and prayer station, making it a perfect spot for hosting an outdoor wedding ceremony or wedding photos. The Millenium Trail cuts through the park from its entrances located at Park Ave. and Victoria St. The Park has ample parking available off of the Park Ave. entrance. To reserve the park for your special event call 613-687-5678 ext. 26. Petawawa ParksThe Town of Petawawa owns and operates a number of community and neighborhood parks located throughout town. Residents in most neighborhoods have the opportunity to walk to a local park to enjoy its facilities and amenities. Outdoor RinkThe Town of Petawawa operates an outdoor rink facility complete with boards, lights, change rooms and even a vintage Zamboni to keep the ice surface smooth and playable. The rink is located adjacent to Pineridge Park off of Pineridge Crescent just in behind the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment. The rink is open 7 days per week from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm daily. The operating season runs approximately from January 1 to the middle of March. Of course, operation of the outdoor rink is weather dependant. Please see Outdoor Program Notices on the home page for up-to-date info regarding the opening and closing of the rink. WaterfrontPetawawa PointPetawawa Point, located at the junction of the Petawawa and Ottawa rivers, is Petawawa's premiere waterfront park. Sandy beaches, stunning vistas, a boat launch, snack bar and canoe/kayak/paddleboat rentals are all available at "the Point" during the summer season. Rental rates and conditions are included below. The boat launch is a concrete launch fitting for small craft launching and comes complete with docking slips to ease your put-in and take-out needs. Centennial ParkCentennial park offers a sandy unsupervised beach for your family enjoyment. Complete with a washroom facility, picnic areas, play equipment and many shaded areas, this waterfront park is a great family destination on a hot summer day. Boat launchesThe Town of Petawawa operates three municipal boat launches located on each of the Petawawa and Ottawa rivers. The Petawawa River boat launch is located in Black Bay on Rantz Rd. and the two Ottawa River launches are located at the Petawawa Point Park and at the end of Radtke Rd. All of the launch facilities will accommodate small motorized craft as wellas canoes, kayaks, etc. For locations, please see the Park Map above. Kayak and Canoe Put-Ins & Take-OutsWhitewater and flatwater enthusiasts can enjoy the world-class and scenic opportunities available in Petawawa. The Petawawa River offers a series of challenging whitewater sections with Class 3 and 4 spring-run rapids at various locations along the river. For the competitior out there, the Hell or High Water event held each spring offers a challenging competitive twist to running the Petawawa. The Ottawa River, with its hundreds of islands and rocky shores offers flatwater paddlers a host of destinations. Whether you are interested in a day paddle or multi-day expedition, the Ottawa River will provide endless adventure all season long.
